BLANCO WHITE OLALLA

As the uncharacteristically tropical British weather continues, you’re no doubt in search of music that suits the climate, and so we’d very much like to recommend the warm, beachside vibes of Blanco White. With surf-acoustica guitar, woody percussion and that reassuring, cowboy-esque, tone, ‘Olalla’ is a gentle sway of the waves gently breaking on the shore. Speaking about the new single, Blanco White says: “‘Olalla’ is a song about the appearing towns and villages of Southern Europe. Often these places are staggeringly beautiful, but are slowly being abandoned as jobs and communities migrate elsewhere. I think I just felt moved by that idea of loss and seemingly inevitable change. Although the narrative laments that change, I hope the song would still be uplifting in some way and capture some of the excitement that I’ve felt when stumbling across a beautiful place.” Known for his distinct style of weaving Anglo-American folk with Andean and Flamenco sounds, it’s almost as though Blanco White's music was designed to bring sunshine to the usually grey UK. - Hannah Thacker
